Creating a put-together look for a room begins with the right window treatments, and the right window treatments begin with choosing your curtain poles. There are a number of choices available for curtain poles, and selecting the right type can greatly enhance the appeal of a home’s decor. Additionally, poles should be both aesthetically attractive and functionally reliable.

For a more formal look, such as a dining room or parlour, a brushed metal or sterling silver material is the best choice for a curtain pole. Some models have tapered edges or finials, which are sculpted pieces on the ends of the poles. These types of formal poles will give a room a luxurious and sophisticated look, but can be considerably more expensive than other types of curtain poles. Curtains made from silk and other luxurious materials look best with these types of high-quality poles.

In a bedroom or casual family room, more laid-back design is appropriate. Some ideas for curtain poles for these rooms are wood or black wrought iron, depending on what best matches the style of the curtains and furniture. These more casual types of poles look good with curtains made from linen and cotton. These poles should be more affordable than the formal curtain poles made of brushed silver described previously.

Choosing the right curtain poles can make a significant difference on the design and decor of a room, but appearance is not the only important thing. Attention should be paid to the quality of the poles as well as their looks. High-quality poles will be solid, not hollow, and crafted out of a single piece of wood or metal rather than multiple pieces welded or glued together. Especially if the poles are intended to be hung with heavy curtains, buying a strong, sturdy pole is a must.

Generally, curtain poles that are higher in quality are made for a certain size of window, or are custom-ordered to fit a precise measurement. Before purchasing any poles, proper measurements of the windows should be carefully taken. If the pole is meant to hang on the wall above the window, the curtain pole should extend a few inches on either side. This will allow room for the curtains to be drawn to the sides of the windows.

For budget shoppers, there are adjustable curtain poles that are considerably cheaper. Sometimes called “tension rods”, these poles can slide to fit most sizes of windows, and fit snugly inside a window frame. These poles are meant to hold only lightweight curtains, because they are not strong or meant to last for a long time. While these poles are not usually the best option, they can be useful for renters who aren’t allowed to drill holes into walls or those who move frequently and don’t want to invest in a custom-fitted curtain pole.

One of the most understated ways to subtly improve your home decor is to change the door handles. Many believe these are just staple fixtures and go largely unnoticed, but this is far from the truth. The wide variety of finishes on the market means that they are a simple yet effective way to spruce up any home without carrying out a massive overhaul. The change can apply to any door in the house, including shower and cupboard doors, meaning that the possibilities are much more widespread than you may have imagined.

To the untrained eye, a door handle may simply be just that – a door handle. The wide range of potential finishes is unbeknown to many, and a quick browse online can open many people’s eyes to the possibilities. Here are a few quick tips to help you choose the perfect finish for your door handles.

A brass finish is a sleek, sophisticated look which is very popular in many homes around the world. This, along with satin chrome, can give a really respectable shiny finish to a door handle but unfortunately requires a lot of looking after. The mundane chore of regularly polishing the handles to keep them in pristine condition may prove a bit of a put-off for many home owners. However if you’re willing to do this every so often then the benefits are clear for all to see.

If you’re looking for something a bit more unique, then leather door handles may be your thing. Perhaps one of the best things about leather is the fact that it is timeless and despite the fact that it will age over the years, the door handles will still look classy for a long time.

If elegance is your thing, then there are a number of options that will be right up your street. Porcelain, glass and stainless steel are all particularly classy finishes which are capable of making a statement. The same could be said of white door handles and crystal, which are also two very popular choices. Like with brass door handles, a number of these finishes also require regular attention and must be polished on a regular basis. One advantage of black door handles is the fact that they maintain their sophisticated look without needing regular maintenance.

One important thing to bear in mind is how well a door handle will go with the door in question. Take wooden doors as an example. Undoubtedly, they look at their best with a pewter, brass or bronze finished door handle. It’s all about mixing and matching to make sure you get the most out of your doors.

Most of the folks may no realise it but coffee tables are essential part of living rooms, they tie the whole space together & making the space look stylish & glamorous. Here I am to guide you about choosing a perfect table for your room when there are many types & varieties of coffee tables in the market. Having an amazing cup of coffee is one thing, but having it on a sophisticated and chic coffee table is even better, this is especially true if you are entertaining guests. Coffee tables can be used as center table for your living room or a side table or even in lonely corners to spruce up the room and add an interesting dimension to it.

Living room or drawing room is surely the most important part of your house because this is the place where you spend most of your time. In many home designs, this is usually the area that your came across at first when you enter the house. That is why it is very important to add element of decoration, entertainment & recreation. Coffee tables in this regard provide a sense of perfect tidiness & are built in such a way that it utilizes little space. Coffee table is also known as cocktail table where coffee is served, books and magazine are placed. They are usually in sitting room, drawing rooms or living lounge of the house. These tables add a style, having a long low, square low or cube low & some unique designs as well. It can also be used for storage. They are normally made up wood; however there is also glass & metal made tables available in the market.

Choosing the perfect coffee table for your living room depends upon the theme of interior decor of your house. Some tables make rich effect & less space, while in big rooms, a large table gives a contemporary look. Moreover if you want to add a touch of glamour to the room then a glass table is the one that suits you most. These tables are not only delicate & enthralling but also it is very easy to clean them. However they are easily broken. So they are not advisable for household with young children. If your living room is spacious, then I suggest you to go for oak coffee tables. These are low built with storage capacity at the bottom. One the other hand, teak tables are also a good option if you are searching for long term durability. Teak is hardwood which can stand much wear & tear as compare to other types of woods. They are also available in many contemporary & traditional designs. I must say! These tables are must if you seek style & glamor in your living space.

The new year is often the opportunity to make good resolutions. So for 2012, is thought to better organize her kitchen to save time and for that meal preparation becomes even more enjoyable. Here are our top 5 resolutions for the kitchen.

1 – Sort

Buying a bed might sound like a straightforward affair, after all it is mattress box springs and frame. What more do you need to know? Beds come in so many different sizes, shapes and compositions that there is a bit more to it than merely picking out one you think would look nice in the bedroom. Beds come in a variety of sizes including twin, full, queen and kingsize bed, with the latter being the largest on the market today. If you are like a lot of people you may be thinking bigger is better, which for most that is true, however you must consider the size of your bedroom in relation to the size of the bed.
Bed Measurements

Twin/ Single- 36’ x 75’

Full – 54’ x 75’

Queen- 60’ x 78’

King- 76’ x 78’

There are also irregular sizes such as Olympic Queen, California Queen, Super King, California king and Super Single, but these are not common sizes.

As you can see, there is a range in lengths and widths which you will want to consider carefully. Let’s say you would like a regular king size bed, if possible measure and mark out the space on your bedroom floor. This will be more difficult if you already have a bed in the room, but you could always mark the extra width and length to get a rough idea of how much space will be left in your bedroom.

Mattress Type
Once you have determined the size you prefer you will want to think about mattress type. Gone are the days when a feather tick was the cream of the crop. Now you have pillow tops, memory foam and your standard open coil construction. Which you choose will depend a good deal on budget and the amount of support you require. For those with back problems a memory foam or comparable latex type mattress is recommended.
Frame Type
This is all a matter of personal taste really as the choices will range from ultra-modern to mission style and many in between. A couple of favourites are the sleigh bed and four-poster varieties. Construction type is not the only thing to consider when buying a new bed, there is also wood grain to think about. Cherry, oak and pine are some common wood varieties each with its own character and innate colour or you may opt for painted beds.

Do you want an adjustable bed? Perhaps you have been considering a waterbed, once all the rage and now only purchased by die-hard fans! Whatever your preference you will have many different choices to consider including size, frame type, mattress type and much more. Take your time when picking out a new bed, sleep is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle so do not sacrifice it to save a few dollars.

If you’re thinking about a bathroom renovation or re-design then you’re also more than likely asking yourself should I go traditional or contemporary. This is a question that can be tricky as the answer is not a simple case of styling the room with the rest of your homes decor. Many traditionally decorated homes have a surprisingly modern bathroom which can complement other rooms within the house, this also works with contemporary homes that feature stunning traditional bathrooms. To make the right decision for your home it’s important to look and each style and discover the benefits and disadvantages that they may have.

When thinking about a modern contemporary bathroom many of us imagine a bathroom that is tranquil, light and features natural elements or modern plastics. A feature that is commonly found in contemporary bathrooms is a large freestanding bath, these create an amazing focal point in any bathroom. Contemporary bathrooms suit both small and large bathrooms and can be a real design statement to really wow your friends and family.

The good thing about contemporary bathrooms is that they can be designed on a wide range of budgets as items can be cheap or expensive if you’re looking for a high end result. Although contemporary bathrooms can look expensive and give of that wow factor they do have their disadvantages, this style of bathroom can sometimes give off a cold and bland feeling if the bathroom is not designed correctly. Bearing this in mind if the renovation is for a property that is going to be for sale or rent then others may not have the same taste.

Traditional bathrooms revolve more around the bath instead of walk in showers and shower enclosures. To get the traditional look that so many people love it is possible to buy modern versions of traditional classics that feature minor tweaks making them more comfortable and stylish. The most popular aspect of traditional bathrooms is the sheer amount of luxury that this style creates. And as for the cold feeling that some contemporary bathrooms can create, traditional bathrooms are the complete opposite giving off a warm, elegant and relaxing bathroom experience.

The main problem that you may come across when renovating your bathroom with a traditional style is adding newer bathroom items such as Jacuzzi jets and showers. Items such as these can look odd and out of place in a traditional bathroom and costs could rise if they are concealed.
There are both disadvantages and advantages with both traditional and contemporary styles of decor, but with the correct planning and design both can result in a bathroom that creates the exact feeling that you are after.

The rising popularity of shows like Mad-Men has led to an increased interest in retro and vintage style interiors. This short guide will give you some pointers as to how to transform your kitchen into a 60s retro style akin to Don Draper’s.

Firstly, you’re going to want to create an open plan area, which will obviously work best if you have a larger kitchen. Fitted cupboards are a must in an retro kitchen, but one of the most important aspects are the tiles you use. The 60s were very much about abstract patterns, so track down some tiles from providers like Topps Tiles, who have a wide range of styles to choose from. Floor tile and wall tiles will be colours, with the floor having a more monochrome tone and the walls having primary colours, which was the signature style of the time.

Finally, vintage appliances will finish the look perfectly. You can easily find retro-style kettles and toasters on the high street and buying old fashioned pans to hang from the walls will not only be incredibly stylish but they will be practical too. In no time you will have a fantastic looking 60s style kitchen that will be the envy of your friends.
