Tile is one of the most important elements in home flooring. Especially the kitchen & bathrooms are considered incomplete without tiles. Today there is a large variety of tiles in the market. So it is important to learn about the different attributes of tiles before making it to install in any portion of your house. In this article I will be discussing about some common types of tiles that is used in floors, walls & other areas of the house.

Natural Stone Tiles
The Granite, the tiles made up of granite is al time hit in any flooring solutions. Although it’s costly, but it pays back, & a good vailue of money due to its durability, beauty & harder surface.

Marble is another good choice if you want to install a stone based tiles in your home. There are different types & colors available in marble tiles. This makes it more popular & affordable. Good for indoor as well as outdoor use. Best fit on any surface & gives elegant look at any area. The while color marble is a good choice for floors in hot areas.

Travertine tiles, another tile from the marble family, comes in different attractive colors. Bit expensive then other types of stone tiles. Ideal for drawing room flooring. Provide luxurious feelings.

Ceramic or clay based tiles
Ceramic tiles or hard surface tiles; these tiles are made by combining different types of clays. These types of tiles are commonly used in different surfaces. These tiles are most suitable for outdoor use due to their strength & durability. For example, ideal for using in outdoor decorative showers & Swimming pools etc. Not recommended for kitchen & bathrooms because it has slippery surface.

Porcelain tiles! This is another type of ceramic tiles which is relatively harder then the ordinary ceramic tiles. It is produced by heating raw materials like kaolin & clays at very high temperature, but much harder because it’s made of porcelain clay instead of composite clays. These products made from porcelain are high quality bathroom products like, wash basins, decoration pieces, utensils etc. off course it is used for custom designed tubs. Pools etc. this product is very suitable for wet surface both indoor & outdoor.

The Mexican saltillo tiles; these tiles are also called the red tiles. However less popular then other ceramic tiles but ideal for hot places. It soaks in liquid easily so these are not recommended for wet surfaces. However it is a good choice for reducing heat in summers if used on the top of ceiling. To make it harder & durable, it required polish work.

The Italian Terracotta; is another clay-based unglazed ceramic used for making tiles & other materials like sculptures etc. the tiles made up from terracotta is not commonly used in modern homes.
